New Zealand to end its coronavirus lock down rules after having zero active cases on the country. 

Authorities have confirmed no new recorded case on the past 17 days as announced by the prime minister Jacinder Ardern in a news conference, where she said that the government will not let its guards down and promises to rebuild the economy.

"We have eliminated transmission of the virus for now. While the job is not done. This is a milestone," she said, adding that lifting of restrictions will be effective from midnight on Monday (12:00 GMT)." Adern said.

The country will now move to a level 1 alert. 

Moving to level 1 “is a statement that we have achieved the goal of eliminating the Covid-19 virus from this country,” she stated that it was a joint effort in eradicating the virus from the country "We united in unprecedented ways to crush the virus,” Ardern said at a press conference in Wellington. “Our goal was to move out the other side as quickly and as safely as we could. We now have a head-start on our economic recovery".

New Zealand, with a population of five million has recorded 1,147 Coronavirus cases, including 21 deaths.

The last COVID-19 patient had been discharged, she was a woman from the city of Auckland.
