Meghan Markle’s show pearl has been canceled by Netflix

Meghan Markle's debut animated series, Pearl, has been canceled by Netflix.

The project, which the Duchess of Sussex conceived and executive produced as part of her and Prince Harry's historic production pact, has been canceled by the streaming platform. The show, simply titled Pearl, would have depicted the exploits of a 12-year-old girl who discovers inscriptions from a range of historical ladies.

Meghan was executive producing the television series alongside David Furnish, but Netflix has made significant changes in order to save money.

Meghan described the show, which was announced last year, as "special."

Netflix is reportedly making a series of adjustments as a result of a reduction in subscription numbers in recent years, according to US media sites.

Netflix executives are still interested in working with Archwell and have an agreement in place for many projects, including Heart of Invictus, a new series that will follow Harry at the recent Invictus Games in The Hague.

The cancellation of Pearl has elicited no response from Meghan and Harry.
