Alaafin of Oyo is dead



Lamidi Adeyemi, Oyo's Alaafin, dies at 83.


The third from the Alowodu Ruling House, Alaafin Adeyemi, died in the late hours of Friday at the Afe Babalola University Teaching Hospital in Ado Ekiti, according to the Premium Times. 


In the early hours of Saturday, the bones of the top Yoruba traditional ruler were taken to Oyo, and traditional rites began. 


He was 83 years old and had ruled for 52 years, making him the longest reigning Alaafin in history. 

The Alaafin upon his death, was married to 13 wives.

After receiving the word of the monarch's death from the Bashorun of Oyo, Yusuf Akinade, who would now oversee Oyo until a new Alaafin is installed, the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, is anticipated to make an official declaration.
