“This is the recording from the security camera at the boat launch when Naya Rivera and her son arrived to rent a pontoon boat at Lake Piru. The video will show them departing the dock and travel north in the lake,” the Ventura County Sheriff’s office said in a statement
Naya rented a boat with her 4 year-old son to go on a lake in Southern California together. She reportedly went missing from Lake Piru in Ventura County on Wednesday evening, July 8.
Alarm was raised by other boaters after they discovered a child was aboard sleeping with a life vest, this was notified to the authorities to which they confirmed that Naya and her son left the dock for about three hours and never returned.
Her Son reportedly told the local media outlets that they went swimming but his mom never made it back to the boat.
Authorities believe Rivera to be 'presumed drowned' and a search has been launched to locate her body, according to Captain Eric Buschow, a spokesman for the Venture County Sheriff's Office.
He said her 4-year-old son was found sleeping on the boat by himself by other boaters in the lake.
“He’s in good health. The boy was initially reported by authorities to be a 3-year-old girl. The family is going through a very traumatic time right now.” Buschow said.
