Japanese Tennis star, Naomi Osaka has become the world's highest paid female athlete, displacing Serena Williams at the top of te list.

According to Forbes, the two time grand slam champion, made £37m in prize money and Endorsements over the past 12 months, setting a new record, this places her £1.4m more than amount earned by Serena Williams. 

Naomi ranks No. 29 in the forbes top 100 highest paid athletes in 2020, ahead of serena Williams who ranks No. 33. It's the first time since 2015 that two female athletes have been ranked in Forbes top 100 best paid athletes. 

Serena Williams has been the world's highest paid female Athlete for the past four years and Naomi turned pro in 2014, winning her first title in March 2018 at Indian Wells, she became the first Asian tennis player to win a slam and the first Asian player to event be ranked No. 1 in the world.

Naomi has a dual citizenship but chose to represent Japan ahead of the Tokyo summer Olympics, which has since been postponed to 2021.

The highest paid female athlete every year since Forbes started tracking the data in 1990 has been a tennis player.
