Governor Nyesom Wike ordered the prosecution of 14 persons moving cattle from Adamawa state into Portharcourt, breaching the rivers state border closure and lockdown in Obio Akpor Local Government. He also ordered the auction of the cattle and trucks used to convey the cattle. The 14 persons caught alleged that the paid bribe of 1,500 naira to the security personnel in order to allow them pass through.
The Governor said that he got his information from well meaning Nigerians, in his words; "this fight has nothing to do with individuals. The law must take its course. Port Harcourt and Obio/Akpor are under lockdown and the law must be obeyed. The trailers and the cows will be auctioned tomorrow.
He also addressed the case of the security agencies saying "you heard them saying they gave money to security agencies before they are allowed to cross the border. The owner of the cattle on the phone admitted they have fallen short of the law".
