Meek Mill’s mother Kathy Williams opens up about her son’s incarceration in an emotional open letter to Lady Justice.“The justice system has failed my son at every turn and hasn’t let go,” she writes (via Billboard). “You, Lady Justice, have allowed corruption at the highest levels of the system, and cruelty and spite have cast doubt on your very foundation.”
The op-ed letter follows new developments. Recently, Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner said he wouldn’t oppose Meek’s release on bail. Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf said he supported and agreed with Krasner’s position.
“Where are you?” Kathy Williams also asks. “The District Attorney and Governor Wolf had the courage to say let my son out of prison due to this injustice. You’ve taken his innocence and abused his pride. He’s suffered loss of family and freedom. No human being should know his truths and be accosted by lies and false judgment under your shelter.”Meek is currently serving a 2-4 year prison sentence for probation violations. Krasner also said there was a “strong likelihood” that his case would be overturned due to a corruption scandal involving one of his arresting officers. Mill is also asking the Pennsylvania Supreme Court to remove Judge Genece Brinkley from the case.
“There’s brothers locked down that did nothing to be here but piss off people like Brinkley,” explained Meek. “I want to speak on this system and what it does to black people – on both fucking sides of the fence.”
